Dr. Huwaida Bulhan is a physician-executive with more than fifteen years in global clinical development, currently Senior Director and Africa Region Lead for Diversity and Inclusion in Clinical Trials at Sanofi R&D.
She began her career in Kenya’s public health system before moving into the pharmaceutical industry, where her work has centred on expanding where clinical research happens and who it serves. At Roche, as Medical Director and Head of Clinical Operations for Sub-Saharan Africa, she led the delivery of more than twenty global trials across six therapeutic areas and opened five new countries to clinical research — including the first global industry-sponsored oncology and neuroscience trials conducted in Sub-Saharan Africa.
At Sanofi she leads the Africa clinical research strategy, working with national regulators, site networks, community organisations and health ministries across six markets to build durable trial capability on the continent.
She holds an MD from the University of Nairobi and an MPH from the University of East London. In 2026 she was elected a Fellow of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine, the second East African to hold the fellowship. She is a published author in the BMJ, has presented at ASCO, and serves on the Steering Committee of the Clinical Research Society of Kenya.
