Prof. Mazyanga Lucy Mazaba is an award-winning Zambian public-health leader, epidemiologist and virologist with nearly 30 years of experience in health-system strengthening, disease surveillance, epidemic preparedness, policy engagement and strategic communication.

She currently serves as Regional Director of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention Eastern Africa Regional Coordinating Centre, providing strategic leadership and coordinating public-health priorities across 14 African Union Member States.

Prof. Mazaba was a member of the inaugural leadership team that established and operationalised the Zambia National Public Health Institute, where she subsequently held senior Director positions. She also established and served as the inaugural Editor-in-Chief of The Health Press Zambia, creating an influential platform for translating scientific evidence into policy, practice and public understanding. Earlier in her career, she served with the World Health Organization for 11 years, contributing to surveillance, immunisation, laboratory systems and outbreak response.

She holds a Doctor of Science in Public Health and a Master of Science in Epidemiology. She is an Adjunct Professor at Amref International University, a Fellow of the Academy of Public Health, and an accomplished author and editor with more than 180 scientific publications, editorials and book chapters.

Dr Mazaba has received numerous accolades and recognitions from professional, academic, corporate and civic organizations for her contributions to public health, scientific communication, leadership and community service. Her formal awards include the Stanbic Bank Zambia Anakazi Women in Health Award and the Outstanding Health Communications Award at the Zambia Health Research Conference.
